Tavistock | Lamerton | North Bovey The Cornish Arms Group is seeking a passionate and driven Head Chef to lead our kitchens and play a key role in the next stage of our growth.

At the heart of the group is The Cornish Arms, Tavistock – an award-winning gastropub with a long-standing reputation for quality, consistency, and seasonally driven food. Alongside it sits The Blacksmiths Arms, Lamerton, a thriving village pub known for its honest, produce-led cooking and strong local following.

We are now preparing to launch our third site, The Ring of Bells, North Bovey, marking an exciting new chapter for the business.

This is a hands-on leadership role for a chef who thrives in a busy, quality-driven environment and is ready to take ownership across multiple kitchens, develop teams, and drive standards.

The Role ~

You will lead from the front—overseeing kitchen operations, developing your team, and ensuring every plate leaving the pass meets the standards we’re known for.

Key Responsibilities ~

• Lead, organise, and inspire the kitchen team across service and prep

Maintain exceptional standards in food quality, consistency, and presentation Oversee day-to-day kitchen operations including ordering, stock control, and GP management

• Drive menu development using seasonal, high-quality produce
• Ensure full compliance with food safety, hygiene, and health & safety standards
• Train, mentor, and develop chefs within the group
• Work closely with front-of-house to deliver seamless, high-level service
• Monitor performance, feedback, and continuously improve the offer
• Maintain tight cost control without compromising on quality
• What We’re Looking For ~
• Proven experience as a Head Chef or Senior Sous in a quality-led kitchen
• Strong leadership and team development skills

A genuine passion for seasonal British produce and modern pub cooking High standards, attention to detail, and a calm, organised approach under pressure

• Commercial awareness with experience managing food costs and margins
• Solid understanding of kitchen systems, structure, and compliance
• A chef who leads by example and builds a positive, motivated team culture
