We are an independent, female-owned bakery and cafe. We opened by popular demand in August 2021 and have been bringing delicious, seasonal pastries to Walthamstow ever since. This is an exciting opportunity to join our small, friendly team on our mission to create delicious baked goods!

As pastry chef you will be responsible for running the kitchen operations alongside the other members of the pastry team. This is the perfect opportunity to perfect your croissant making with scope for some creativity and input as well as potential for the role to develop.
We believe in work/life balance – you will work 8-9 hour days 5 days per week, with an additional day off every 3 weeks and every third weekend off. Hours are worked between 6.30am-2.30pm or 9am-5pm – no night shifts or super early mornings!
Job requirements Experienced pastry chef (experience with laminated doughs preferred but not essential)
Able to use initiative and think on your feet Passionate about food, pastries and seasonal, quality produce.
Who are we?
Wood Street Bakery started during lockdown in 2020 as a home bakery delivery service. Word spread and soon the bakes were selling out faster than we could make them.
At the same time the iconic Percy Ingle closed down it’s 48 bakery sites, including the one on Wood Street. As an East Londoner we grew up with Percy Ingle and saw this as an opportunity to reinvigorate this neighbourhood bakery.
Wood Street Bakery & Cafe finally opened it’s doors in August 2021 and has been welcoming in customers with lots of freshly baked pastries and delicious coffee ever since.
What do we do?
We are an artisan patisserie/bakery and cafe located on Wood Street, everything is made in house and baked fresh every morning. We use the best quality ingredients – chocolate from Land (made in Hackney), Cornish St. Ewe eggs, The Estate Dairy cultured butter from Somerset and Shipton Mill flour. Drinks are made with Wood Street Coffee and Good & Proper Tea with Estate Dairy Milk or Glebe Farm Pure Oats.

We have worked hard to generate a happy, friendly working environment for our small team. We are an independent, female owned business, we believe in equality for all. Our neighbourhood community is hugely important to us – Wood Street is a hidden gem and we are friendly and supportive of all the other businesses on the street.
