Salary: Competitive (dependent on experience) We are looking for a talented and passionate Sous Chef to join the team at The Swan Inn, Felsted – a vibrant pub and restaurant bringing authentic Italian cuisine to the heart of Essex.

Our kitchen celebrates the flavours of Italy, from rich handmade pastas and rustic small plates to classic dishes and stone-baked pizzas prepared by our master Italian pizzaiolo. Alongside our Italian menu, we proudly serve a traditional Sunday roast, which has become a key part of our weekly offering.

This is an exciting opportunity for a skilled chef who enjoys working with fresh ingredients, supporting a strong kitchen team, and delivering consistently high standards in a busy but supportive environment.

The Role

As Sous Chef, you will support the Head Chef in running the day-to-day kitchen operations and maintaining the high standards our guests expect.

Responsibilities include:

• Supporting the management of daily kitchen operations
• Ensuring consistent food quality and presentation
• Assisting with preparation and service during busy periods
• Maintaining excellent food hygiene and kitchen safety standards
• Supporting and motivating the kitchen team
• Stock control, ordering, and cost management
• Contributing to menu development and seasonal dishes
• Delivering a high-quality Sunday roast service

About You

We’re looking for someone who:

Has previous experience as a Sous Chef or strong Chef de Partie ready to step up

• Has experience with Italian cuisine (preferred but not essential)
• Can confidently prepare a traditional Sunday roast
• Works well under pressure in a fast-paced kitchen
• Has a strong understanding of food hygiene and kitchen standards
• Is organised, reliable, and passionate about great food
• Is a supportive team player with good communication skills
• Italian language skills are a bonus, but not essential
