Job Summary We are seeking a talented and passionate Junior Sous Chef to join our culinary team at The Merchant Steakhouse. The ideal candidate will have a strong background in food production and kitchen management, demonstrating exceptional leadership and culinary skills. As a Junior Sous Chef, you will assist the Head Chef in overseeing kitchen operations, ensuring that all dishes are prepared to the highest standards of quality and presentation. Your role will involve supervising kitchen staff, managing food preparation, and maintaining food safety protocols while fostering a positive work environment.

Responsibilities

• Supervise and coordinate the activities of kitchen staff to ensure efficient food production and service.
• Assist in menu planning and recipe development, ensuring creativity and seasonal relevance.
• Oversee food preparation processes, ensuring high standards of quality, taste, and presentation.
• Train and mentor kitchen staff in cooking techniques, food safety practices, and hospitality standards.
• Maintain cleanliness and organisation of the kitchen, adhering to health and safety regulations.
• Collaborate with the Head Chef to manage inventory levels and order supplies as needed.
• Ensure all dishes are prepared according to recipes while accommodating special dietary requirements.
• Monitor portion sizes and minimise waste to maintain cost control. Experience
• Proven experience in a similar role within a restaurant or hospitality environment.
• Strong culinary skills with extensive knowledge of food preparation techniques.
• Previous supervisory or team management experience is essential.
• Familiarity with food safety regulations and best practices in a kitchen setting.
• Excellent leadership abilities with a focus on fostering teamwork and collaboration.
